The AC Cobra was a now legendary Anglo-American collaboration blending
raw power with a sports car body. American designer, driver and entrepreneur Carroll Shelby famously shoehorned a
289 cubic-inch Ford V8 engine into the lightweight AC Ace creating one
of the most famous sportscars of the 1960s. The 1965 version of the
Cobra ramped things up further with the introduction of the 427 model,
equipped with a monstrous 7.0-litre V8 producing up to
425bhp. With its explosive acceleration and top speed of over
160mph the Cobra was built to dominate any race track.
Besides its ferocious engine, the AC Cobra also boasted a superb curvaceous muscular
bodywork design. The wide wheel fenders, gaping
front grille, and chrome plated side exhausts were as bold as its performance.
On the track the Cobra challenged and often
beat European rivals Ferrari and Aston Martin. Even on the
road it provided an unparalleled driving experience with its low-slung
body and roaring exhaust making every drive a memorable event. The AC Cobra
remains a highly sought-after classic car revered both for its
historical significance and thrilling performance.
