Painted in BMW's legendary Motorsport colours, this is the 1977 BMW 320 as driven by Marc Surer in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC). The
car, an 'E21' body-shape 3-series, was transformed into a
race-ready machine
where it competed against the best cars from across the continent. Surer's
320 with its large rear wing and aggressive aerodynamics signified
BMW's dedication to touring car racing during the late 1970s.
Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, in race tune the 320
produced up to 300bhp. This allowed the
lightweight car to reach amazing speeds and deliver incredible performance
in both straight-line acceleration and cornering. The rear wing provided
crucial downforce that kept the car planted on the track as needed.
Additionally, the wide stance and Bilstein race suspension offered exceptional
cornering ability and superb handling.
Marc Surer, a highly skilled Swiss driver, piloted the car to numerous
successes, helping to bolster BMW's international reputation in touring car
racing. The BMW 320 remains a beloved historic car among racing fans and is a symbol
of BMW's motorsport prowess in the late 1970s. That distinctive Motorsport
livery makes it instantly recognisable worldwide.
