The BMW M3 Sport Evolution (1990) painted here in striking red, is the
ultimate expression of the E30-body-shaped M3. It was the car that defined BMW's dominance
in both road and track performance. As the final iteration of the E30
M3, the Sport Evolution was built with racing in mind, featuring more
power, lighter weight, and advanced aerodynamics. Limited to just 600
production cars, it is one of the rarest and most sought-after models in BMW's
legendary M3 lineup.
Powering the M3 Sport Evo was a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 238bhp, an
increase over the standard M3. Pairing it
with a five-speed manual transmission and a lightweight chassis allowed
the Sport Evolution to deliver razor-sharp handling and impressive
acceleration. The car was a joy to drive on twisty roads and racetracks
alike. Revised aerodynamics included an adjustable front splitter,
and a rear wing which improved downforce and stability at high speeds.
The M3 Sport Evolution met the homologation
requirements for Group A Touring Car racing, a class in which the E30 M3 had
already established itself as a dominant force. Today, the 1990 BMW M3
Sport Evolution is seen as one of the finest driving machines ever
made. It's a car that will forever be celebrated for its purity, balance, and connection to BMW's
history of motorsport successes.
