[art #285]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.

The Chevrolet Corvette C1 (1960) with it's stylish white side flash epitomises the early era of classic American sports cars. The Corvette C1 was Chevrolet's answer to the growing demand for sleek powerful cars in post-war America and by 1960 it had matured into a true icon of automotive design. The curvaceous body inspired by fighter jets featured four headlights, chrome accents, and a distinctive dual-tone paint scheme giving the car a glamorous and aggressive look.

The Corvette C1 could be powered by a range of V8 engines with the top-of-the-line model boasting a 283-cubic-inch fuel-injected engine producing up to 315bhp. Paired with a 4-speed manual transmission the C1 offered thrilling acceleration and a top speed approaching 150mph making it one of the fastest American cars of its day. The independent front suspension and rear leaf springs ensured the Corvette handled as well as it looked, giving a beautifully smooth and confident ride.

The C1 Corvette was the first true sports car produced by the USA and it offered both exhilarating performance and head-turning style. It is classic 'Americana' and is a car made for the open roads and a sense of freedom that defined an entire generation of fun loving drivers.
