The Fiat X1/9 (1972) painted here in cool blue, was a
revolutionary sports car designed by Bertone for Fiat. The X1/9 was notable for its mid-engine layout which was a
rarity for affordable cars at the time. The 1.3-litre
inline-four cylinder engine produced around 75bhp, so it wasn't built for raw
speed but for agility and balance. Its lightweight construction
and near-perfect weight distribution made it a joy to drive, especially
on twisty roads where its handling excelled.
With a Targa-style removable roof, the X1/9 gave drivers a blend of
open-top motoring and coupe-style rigidity. The car's wedge-shaped
profile, flip-up headlights, and compact dimensions gave it an
unmistakable presence on the road. As such, it was a sports car for the masses,
offering Italian style and precision handling at an affordable
price. While modest in power, the X1/9 became a cult favourite for
driving enthusiasts who appreciated its unique mix of styling and steering
dynamics.
The blue paint emphasises its modern playful design, standing
out as a vibrant representation of the era's daring automotive trends.
