The Fiat X1/9 (1972), depicted here in striking lime green, was a
revolutionary sports car designed by Bertone. Introduced in the
early 1970s, the X1/9 was notable for its mid-engine layout, which was a
rarity for affordable cars at the time. It had a 1.3-litre
inline-four engine producing around 75bhp, but it wasn't built for raw
speed, instead it was about agility and balance. The lightweight construction
and near-perfect weight distribution made it a joy to drive, especially
on twisty roads, where the fine handling truly shone.
With its Targa-style removable roof, the X1/9 gave drivers a blend of
open-top motoring and coupe-style rigidity. The car's wedge-shaped
profile, flip-up headlights, and compact dimensions made it an
unmistakable presence on the road. It was a sports car for the masses,
offering Italian style and precision handling at a relatively affordable
price. Though modest in power, the X1/9 is a cult favourite for
enthusiasts who appreciate its unique blend of styling and driving
dynamics.
The lime green paint emphasises its bold and playful design,
and is a vibrant representation of the daring automotive trends about in the 1970's.
