The Jaguar XJ220 (1992), here painted in striking metallic blue, was a
technological marvel and the fastest production car in the world when
it was release. Powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6, the XJ220
produced a staggering 542bhp, propelling it to a top speed of 217mph.
Originally conceived with a V12 engine, the shift to a V6 allowed for
better weight distribution and even more efficient performance, yet it
did remain controversial among Jaguar purists.
Its sleek, low-slung bodywork was designed for maximum aerodynamic
efficiency with the metallic paint enhancing its futuristic
lines. Its scissor-like doors and dramatic stance make the XJ220 appear to be
as fast standing still as it is at full speed. Although its production
was limited, and faced some criticism, the XJ220 has since become a
highly sought-after classic, representing the pinnacle of Jaguar's
engineering prowess in the early 1990s.
