The Jaguar XK120 (1948), here in silver, was a
state-of-the-art sports car that set new standards for performance and
style when it was unveiled. Its name referenced its top speed, 120mph,
making it the fastest production car in the world at the time. Powered
by a 3.4-litre straight-six engine, the XK120 produced 160 bhp
which was impressive for the era. It featured twin SU carburettors, and
the engine's smoothness was complemented by the car's streamlined body
which helped it cut through the air with grace and finesse.
The sleek lines of the XK120 made it an instant classic. Its long bonnet and
delicate front grille created an image of sophistication and speed. In
silver, the paint accentuates the car's aluminium bodywork, adding a touch of
modernity to its post-war design. Jaguar's XK120 went on to dominate
both the road and the track, winning countless races and breaking records
worldwide. It became the foundation for so many future Jaguar sports cars, and
its influence and legacy is still felt in car design today.
