[art #267]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.

The Lotus 49 (1968), in classic British racing green with yellow striping, is one of the most iconic Formula 1 cars ever created. Driven by the legendary Scot, Jim Clark, this particular car, number 5, was a marvel of engineering, designed by the great Colin Chapman. The Lotus 49 was the first F1 car to use the Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine as a stressed member of the chassis, a revolutionary concept that would change Formula 1 forever.

With its lightweight monocoque construction and incredible agility, the Lotus 49 quickly became a dominant force in the late 1960s. The green and yellow livery of Team Lotus became synonymous with speed and innovation, as Jim Clark and later drivers such as Graham Hill took the car to victory. The Ford Cosworth V8 produced around 400bhp, allowing the Lotus 49 to achieve incredible speeds while maintaining superior handling. This car not only helped Clark to many victories but also laid the groundwork for future advancements in Formula 1 design.
