The Porsche 911 RSR is a legendary racing machine synonymous with
endurance racing dominance. In its iconic Martini Racing livery the
1973 911 RSR cemented its place in motorsport history during races such as
the Targa Florio. This particular example bearing the number 8 was piloted
by Herbert Müller and Gijs van Lennep, two highly skilled drivers who
pushed the car to its limits across the rugged roads of Sicily. Powered
by a 2.8-litre flat-six engine the RSR generated approximately 300bhp
giving it remarkable speed and agility.
Visually the car was a Porsche masterpiece. Its widened bodywork and flared
wheel arches are designed to accommodate larger tires for better traction
and control. The Martini Racing colours with those unmistakable blue
and red stripes added to its allure, and the lightweight construction
and raw power made the RSR a fearsome competitor. At the the Targa Florio in 1973, despite the
challenging terrain of Sicilian countryside, the combination of
precision engineering and driving talent ensured its position as the winning car of
the race.
