[art #260G]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The 1974 Triumph Spitfire 1500 here shown in green stands out as one of the most iconic
small British sports cars of its era. Known for its charming design and
nimble handling, the Spitfire 1500 represented the final iteration of
the Spitfire range, which had been in production since 1962. With a
low-slung body and a classic convertible top, the Spitfire was an
attractive option for those who wanted the thrill of open-air motoring
without breaking the bank.
Under the bonnet, the 1500 featured a 1.5-liter inline-four engine,
producing 71bhp, which, while modest by modern standards,
provided a lively driving experience thanks to the car's lightweight
construction. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the Spitfire
could reach a top speed of about 100mph, offering plenty of fun for
weekend road trips and spirited drives.
The design, penned by Michelotti, is unmistakably British, with a long
bonnet, chrome bumpers, and flowing lines that give the Spitfire its
classic roadster appeal. The 1974 model, in particular, benefited from
some updates, including a revised suspension for improved ride quality.
For enthusiasts, the Spitfire 1500 remains a beloved symbol of classic
British sports car heritage, known for its character and engaging drive.
